When I think back to my own childhood, one of the clearest memories I have is school photo day.

I remember sitting on a stool, trying so hard to sit just right—chin up, shoulders turned, hands folded exactly like the photographer told us. I remember pulling a smile onto my face, the kind that felt polite and correct… not real. Not mine.

And those are the photos I have from those years. Beautiful in their own way, but the smiles? Forced. The memories? A little stiff.

Nothing about them reflects who I really was—my personality, my laugh, my joy, the way I felt in the moment. (If you want to see my fresh, modern approach to school photography check this out!)

That’s exactly why Family Sessions with Grateful Moments Photography are the complete opposite.

Family Photos Should Feel Like You—Not a Performance

As a Southern Oregon family photographer, my heart is to create images that feel alive and honest—images your kids will look back on someday and actually remember.

Not because they were told exactly where to put their feet… but because they were having fun with the people they love most.

During your session, we play.

We explore.

We move.

We laugh.

We pause for breaks, snacks, moments of snuggling in close. (because sometimes meltdowns happen, and that's okay)

We adapt to what your children need in the moment—because real connection happens when kids feel safe enough to be themselves.

My goal?

To capture the personalities of every family member.

The spark in your toddler’s eyes, your teen’s true smile, your child’s shy or silly side.

Posing is not the point—connection is.

Guided, Not Forced: Natural Direction That Lets You Be Yourselves

While my sessions are relaxed and movement-based, you’re never left guessing what to do.

I give gentle guidance that helps everyone look their best—things like:

  • Where to stand so the light falls beautifully
  • How to hold your little one in a way that looks natural
  • What to do with your hands
  • Which direction to look so everyone stays connected

But my direction is always meant to support the moment—not control it.

You will never feel like you’re back in those old school photo lines, trying to get everything “right.”

What I don’t want your kids to remember:

Trying to follow directions or perform.

What I do want them to remember:

The warm hugs.

The giggles.

The running and playing.

Mom’s laughter.

Dad’s goofy voices.

The feeling of togetherness.

This Isn't Something to Check Off Your List

Family photos shouldn’t be a chore.

Not something you grit your teeth through or rush to finish.

Not something your kids dread or you stress over.

Instead, I want your session to feel like a pause in the middle of a busy season—a chance to slow down and truly see your people.

I want you to remember the moment your son said what he loves most about you.

Or the way your daughter’s eyes lit up when you whispered how proud you are of her.

Or the soft, quiet connection between you and your spouse as you held hands and took a breath together.

Those are the moments you will want in photographs.

Those are the images that will matter decades from now.

Those are the memories your kids will carry.

The Tiny Moments You Don’t Want to Forget

When families look through their galleries, they rarely mention the perfectly posed photos.

Instead, they notice:

  • The way their toddler’s hand still fits inside theirs
  • The curl that always falls across their daughter’s cheek
  • The way their child lights up when Mom looks at them
  • The laugh Dad only uses at home
  • The growing closeness between siblings
  • The deep breath a mom takes when she feels truly seen

These are the things you don’t want to forget.

And that’s what I’m here to photograph.

Serving Families in Grants Pass, Medford, and the Heart of Southern Oregon

Whether your session takes place in the rolling hills of Grants Pass, the open fields near Medford, or the quiet, scenic beauty of the Applegate or Ashland, I choose locations that allow your family to relax, explore, and connect naturally.

Southern Oregon is full of beautiful, peaceful places where kids can run, where parents can breathe, and where genuine moments can unfold.

Your family has a story—one that deserves more than stiff poses and forced smiles.

Because Your Kids Won’t Remember the Perfect Pose…

But they will remember:

How loved they felt

How fun the session was

How Mom and Dad held them close

How safe it felt to be themselves

And those are the moments I’m here to help you hold onto.
